Finasteride Propecia

Propecia (finasteride) has been specially designed for the treatment of male pattern baldness, affecting even quite young males these days. However, this problem is most often diagnosed in men over 50. In fact, about 50 per cent of men over 50 are likely to have male pattern baldness at a certain stage.

Male pattern baldness cannot be cured, as its occurrence and degree depend on the levels of testosterone and other individual parameters. However, this condition can be easily treated, and Propecia has been developed to solve the problem.

The process of hair loss and follicle demineralization is related to testosterone turning into DHT (dihydrotestosterone). When the levels of DHT are low, the hair is more likely to get thicker and stronger. Propecia works by preventing the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, that way helping the patient to re-grow hair, at the same time contributing to the hair becoming stronger and thicker.

Propecia must never be handled by women that are pregnant or intend to get pregnant, as it may affect the development of male baby organs.

If a pregnant woman comes into contact with a crushed tablet of Propecia, she must wash her hands well and consult a doctor right away. Coated tablets of Propecia are safe.

Propecia is a very safe treatment unlikely to cause any side effects in most patients using it. This treatment can also be combined with other drugs the patient is using at the moment, as there are no known interactions. This drug needs to be used for at least a year to get a stable result, or even longer if the patient wants keep the hair re-grown.
